In this course, learn how to illustrate a two-page spread of a story based on your favorite text. Discover a variety of watercolor techniques from basic to advanced to create stunning illustrations that captivate young readers and keep them turning pages.

Description

Discover the wonders of a paint brush by filling the pages of children's books with emotion

Start the course by meeting Antonia Rosello, who tells you about her career as an illustrator, her passions, and her interests. She also explains what the art of illustration means to her and shares some of her influences and sources of inspiration.

Dive into the magical world of children's illustrations and analyze the different types of books geared towards this young audience. Run through a series of exercises to understand how watercolors behave and practice working with a paint brush and creating different effects using a variety of techniques. Analyze and interpret the text you're going to illustrate and start working on your characters by developing all their defining features.

Next, define the color palette for your project. Create a sketch of your illustration and trace it onto watercolor paper. Working in sections, bring your illustration to life by adding color: start with the sky, fill in the background, and finish with your characters.

To round out your illustration, learn how to add contour lines and other finishing touches to bring out those small, yet important details. Finally, scan your illustration and retouch it in Photoshop to give your piece the perfect finish.
