Jaime Sanjuan Ocabo

What most attracted Jaime Sanjuán about digital painting with Procreate was the possibility of experimenting with different pictorial techniques without the need to invest in materials or tools, working in a studio that is reduced to the screen of his iPad. Nowadays, the work that this artist does with a tablet and his fingers are exhibited in museums and galleries around the world and has given him the opportunity to work for major clients such as Apple, Pixelmator or Frit Ravich, receiving international recognition as a result.

In this course, you will learn to illustrate a completely surreal situation using still-life elements, the Procreate app, and your fingers. Jaime will teach you the skills you need to use concepts of traditional analog techniques, such as oil painting or pastel, in digitally created compositions and elements.

Description

Learn to digitally draw with your iPad and your fingers

Start by getting to know Jaime Sanjuán’s work, as well as his career first from a more traditional, analog perspective, and how he adapted to painting techniques and digital illustration that he uses today. Discover some of the realistic and hyper-realistic artists who inspires him the most and some of his favorite artistic references that work with Procreate.

Learn how to set up your Procreate workspace so that it suits your needs, see the basic gestures to paint with your fingers on an iPad screen, and create your own brushes with Jaime’s guidance.

Once you’re familiar with the software you will start with the composition, ordering all the elements in the space.

Next, add some details and start with the illustration process. Experiment by painting realistic objects with different finishes and textures—wood, metal, glass, ceramics, liquids, and more—with Jaime’s advice on how to apply lights, shadows, reflections, and all kinds of details so that your drawings look as natural as possible.

Lastly, Jaime shows you how to export your work in Procreate so you can use your painting or illustration in different types of projects.
