Curiosity, observation, and respect for the changes in nature are the three main ingredients for creating botanical illustrations. In her realistic compositions, illustrator Nadia Leo reproduces plants and flowers and the feelings they embody by putting special emphasis on their characteristic features and colors.

In this course, Nadia teaches you how to stop and take in the nature around you to accurately recreate it using watercolor techniques. Learn how to choose a subject for your illustration, make an outline, and apply color until you have an elaborate and realistic work of art. Stop and smell the flowers with Nadia and learn how to depict incredible colors and shapes.

Description

Learn a drawing method based on curiosity and careful observation to create botanical watercolor illustrations

Meet your teacher, Nadia Leo. She tells you about her professional and creative career and shows you some of the influences that have inspired the way she approaches art and drawing.

Next, cover all the materials you need for the course, from paper and pencil to paintbrushes and watercolors. Arrange your workspace and study the flowers and leaves you want to paint, paying special attention to the details.

Once you have an idea in mind, draw your first sketch and outline their main features. Continue adding detail, like light and volume, until you finish your design. Then, transfer it to watercolor paper using a light table.

Now it's time for color! Nadia teaches you how to make a color wheel and create natural tones to give your painting a realistic look. After laying down a couple of glazes, build on those layers to highlight specific details and achieve a true-to-life color.

When you've finished your illustration, use the remaining colors to create abstract patterns that you can transform into paintings, postcards, or business cards. Finally, compile all the drafts and drawings you did throughout the course into a botanical folder to keep track of your creative work.
