Illustrating nature is a field where art and science come together, urging us to consider the conservation of the environment. Illustrator Antonia Reyes, also known as Antonia Pajarito (little bird in Spanish), creates naturalist watercolors of infinite beauty. Her artistic process starts with an in-depth observation, analysis, and comparison, to include every detail, proportions, and relation of the individual elements it comprises.

In this course, Antonia invites you to a creative journey that involves opening your eyes, mind, and heart to detect the wonderful details in birds. She teaches you how to observe and interpret nature like a naturalist from the twenty-first century. Learn how to draw, use watercolors, understanding the basic anatomy of birds, and the representation of feathers, their colors, as well as other details.

Description

Observe and interpret the beauty of birds and learn to paint their feathers, shapes, and vivid colors

Start the course by getting to know Antonia, who will talk about her area of expertise, and tell you where she draws her inspiration from.

Understand how to use the ideal art materials to develop your watercolor illustration, reviewing the many sources of inspiration you can use to find the necessary inspiration and information for your illustration.

Continue the course by analyzing the parts that make up the anatomy of a bird, to achieve realistic illustrations, learning how to observe birds like a illustrator: identifying basic shapes and proportions. Then, start drawing loose sketches until your get to finding one that will enable you to start with watercolor.

Collect a repertoire of the colors that you will use to create your chromatic guide. Antonia will show you how to start diluting your watercolors and cover general areas of color: areas of color, light, and shadows. Then, work on the plumage and learn different types of brush strokes to achieve intricate textures.

Work on the realism of your illustration, by focusing on the contrast and details. With penciles, finish the final touches on the eyes, beak, and feet. To finish, Antonia gives you some tricks and ideas to recreate illustrations of other bird species, but as always, with your own personal style.
