Clara Debray's illustrations can be described as a poetic journey through light. In the style of Monet or Cézanne, her oil pastel and crayon landscapes transport the viewer to a dream world full of emotion.
In this course, learn to depict a natural landscape by playing with different finishes and combining oil pastels. Discover composition techniques and apply color to convey the beauty of a place, a dream, or anything that catches your eye.
Description
Get to know your teacher, illustrator Clara Debray, and hear about her career so far. She also talks about her main sources of inspiration including the Impressionist, Fauvist, and Nabi movements.
Learn to use oil pastels and crayons before seeing how sketching and note-taking can be tools for inspiration. Next, study the composition of a drawing and choose the setting and colors for your first sketches.
Now it's time to focus on your final piece. Start by selecting the paper format that best suits your composition and draw your landscape with light-colored pencils. Then, work on the background using oil pastels and switch to crayons to create the central elements. Move to the foreground and use a mix of the two techniques. Wrap up your illustration with some final details like superposition, gradient, and blending, and last but not least, give it a title.
Once it's finished, Clara shows you how to frame and care for your artwork. She also gives you some final tips on the postproduction of your piece and life as a professional illustrator.
