How do you give life and volume to characters you’ve designed on paper? In this course, 3D Character Artist Luis Arizaga—director of the short film Holymonks and collaborator in Alike, selected for the Goya prize—shows you how to use Blender, a powerful software that allows you to model, light, render, and animate your characters.
Learn how to create and work with basic objects, create base structures for characters, use modeling and sculpting tools, the nodes system to create materials, lights, a rendering engine, how to use the camera, and more.
Description
Start by getting to know Luis Arizaga’s work and influences, going from 2D, to 3D, comics, the video game industry, or even toy design.
Luis gives you a brief introduction to Blender, showing you how to install it, along with some interesting resources such as add-ons, models, and production materials. Set up the interface, some visor parameters, and start to work in the 3D space to configure your scene.
Learn how to create, manipulate, and edit objects, to then start exploring different modeling techniques. Create a model, starting from the base with a blocking while taking into account and prioritizing the character’s silhouette.
Then, explore the lighting system in Blender, create a basic lighting set, and work on the materials for your scene. Luis shows you how the nodes system works and teaches you the rendering process.
Apply all you’ve learned to your final project, create a model of your character, and present it with a 3D render.
