When seeking to become an illustrator, each individual has their own unique path to get there. Argentinian illustrator and graphic designer Cristian Turdera enjoys creating stories and sharing his vision of authors on themes that allure, whether it be for books, magazines, toys, objects, installations, and more. With a wide variety of experience in the industry, and having worked on a range of editorial areas with Penguin Random House, Editorial SM, Alfaguara, or Pequeño Editor, among others.

In this course, Cristian shows you his creative process so you can develop an illustrated idea. He teaches you how to rethink the objects you think you know, to transform them into the protagonist of your illustration, and question your point of view, giving you additional ideas to express your vision, starting with words.

Description

Learn a process to create illustration reinventing concepts from a personal perspective

Start by getting to know Cristian, his work, and about the things and people that inspire and influence his work, then going through the course’s specifics.

See the difference between drawing and illustrating, and how drawing must be your ally when exploring new areas with a series of Cristian’s fun and practical exercises. See how an object can have infinite possibilities.

Select an idea linked to a phrase, a theme, and the object you choose and get to sketching. Polish your sketch until you have it ready to create your final illustration. Consider the format, scan your penciled drawing, and keep working on your illustration with vectors on Adobe Illustrator (you can also use Photoshop). Work on the design and the shapes until you find a solid base.

Continue using the references you’ve collected, incorporating objects to your image, as well as textures, volume, and essential details. Cristian shows you his entire creative process step-by-step, seeing how to use layers, filters, lights, and shadows, and other elements. He also shows you how to include typefaces. Lastly, he gives you some practical advice on the profession.
