The combination of narrative and images that children's literature brings together gives life to a powerful visual language, a hallmark of picturebooks. Brazilian writer and illustrator Weberson Santiago is an expert on the subject, having successfully published several books and other projects with major publishers, newspapers, and magazines.
In this course, learn to develop an idea graphically and build a visual narrative for a picturebook. Weberson guides you through each step with a series of exercises, showing you how to create characters and build the environment using a variety of composition techniques.
Description
Learn about Weberson's career in the world of illustration, from his beginnings illustrating for magazines and coloring for other artists to becoming the author of more than ten published books. He shares with you some of his main influences and briefly goes over everything you will see throughout the course.
Learn the main characteristics of an illustrated book, analyzing its narrative elements and visual language. Learn some composition techniques, including lines, symmetry, scale, color, and typography, that can be applied to your final drawing.
Let's get started! Begin scribbling, cutting, pasting, and sketching some illustrations. Weberson gives some advice on how to build your characters and their environment to illustrate more creative compositions.
Then, start working on your digital composition and start building and shaping your final book.
In the last step, learn to digitally adjust the images in Adobe Photoshop and create a PDF of your project with three double-pages and a cover of your project to be presented to an editor or client.
