Hanoch Piven

Mixed media artist Hanoch Piven believes art and play are two concepts that go hand-in-hand towards demystifying the idea that only a select few can be real artists. Piven's playful portraits have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, The Atlantic Monthly, The Times and Entertainment Weekly, among other publications.

Throughout this course, you will use everyday objects to create 3D collages in order to unleash your creativity and allow you to express yourself visually. Join Piven on this journey to create a fresh new way of seeing, and become the artist you've always been.

Description

Discover a playful process to unleash and expand your creativity through the creation of portraits

Piven will start off this course by presenting his collection of work, talk about his references, and share the circumstances which led him to develop his own unique way of creating caricatures.

Next, you'll use his collage technique as a creative experiment where you'll be able to observe different ways to trigger and build up a creative process. Meanwhile, you will also consider the concept of collage as a metaphor for any creative process, helping you enter the right frame of mind in order to creatively play.

You will analyze the face, using the tips Piven learned throughout his 40 years of drawing and studying other caricaturists; learning how to create similarities and visual hierarchies, while Piven gives a demonstration of how he creates a portrait from A to Z.

Art is a safe place in which we can explore the way we interact with the world and enter a space of inner communication and self-reflection. This is why so many artists have created self-portraits, and why you'll create one too.

Trusting your individual voice is key to allowing yourself to act creatively. A good creative space is one that allows you to follow your own ideas and feelings, and break free from convention. Once you trust your intuition, you'll have your own personal measure which will help you distill what is essential, or at least meaningful, in your projects and beyond. In other words: editing. Editing is essential but basing that process on your own guiding rules is the real secret.
