Description

Learn the essentials of storytelling, composition, and color to create your own fictional worlds

Begin the course by getting to know more about animator, illustrator, and concept artist Michael Relth. He takes you through his journey to becoming a full-time freelancer, along with the influences which have inspired his creative career.

Dive into the essentials of Procreate and its tools before learning how to use simple values and compositions to create compelling images. Explore color theory and see how experimenting with contrast, hue, value, saturation, and more can help bring harmony to your work.

Time to get started on your illustration! Begin by coming up with an idea for your artwork, drawing on your personal experiences. Michael shares his sources of inspiration when illustrating, and guides you through creating a reference board of your own images. Sketch your ideas on paper using a pencil before importing them into Procreate.

Refine your rough sketch and develop your character using digital brushes. Then learn how to use value composition to illuminate your scene and create a color thumbnail to use as a reference. Michael demonstrates the process behind adding light to your illustration and how to paint it. Then set up your layers and begin painting, starting with the background before moving on to the finer details.

Put the finishing touches to your painting by playing around with things like curves, color balance, and dust particles. To finish the course, Michael guides you through how to export your images and download a time-lapse recording of your creative process to share online.
