A text can gain significantly more meaning when accompanied by an illustration that rouses the senses. Explore how to combine drawing and collage to create evocative pieces alongside illustrator and graphic designer Samuel Castaño, who specializes in editorial pieces.
In this course, do an illustration inspired by a haiku (a Japanese poem) using paper and pencils, and enhance it with complementary elements in collage.
Description
Start the course by getting to know Samuel Castaño a little better. He talks about his career in the world of illustration and children's books, how he started out, and his main sources of inspiration.
Then take a look at the main elements to consider when developing your project: identifying and studying texts, preparing materials, selecting reference images, and creating sketches.
Now get straight to sketching! Samuel shows you some methods that allow you to work neatly and efficiently before you explore the different types of pencils and their uses. Next, work with collage to complement your illustration.
Once you've completed your piece, Samuel tells you about resolution, formats, and how to manage your files as well as scan them. Finish up by putting together a simple mock-up containing your chosen text along with your composition.
