Colors are a crucial part of making your line work as expressive as the look on your characters' faces. For digital illustrator Carolina Cardona, better known as Caroca, this is one of the underlying principles of her artwork where she expertly blends a variety of tones to create powerful compositions influenced by manga.
In this course, learn how to bring your character illustrations to life using a well-defined color palette and prepare your final art for printing or to share online. Combine digital techniques using Photoshop to produce unique textures with the power to convey emotions.
Description
Start the course with an introduction from your teacher Carolina Cardona, better known as Caroca, who tells you about her personal story and professional career. She also talks about her influences and the importance of enriching yourself as an artist by absorbing what you like from each one.
With that idea in mind, put together a mood board with characters you'd like to draw, text fragments, colors, photos of body and facial expressions, and anything that inspires you. Then, jump straight into the creative process and start sketching, first on paper and then in Photoshop.
Clean up your sketches by polishing your line work and study some color theory to choose the perfect palette for your project. Caroca then shows you how to apply your chosen colors using layers.
Move onto the final step and put the finishing touches to your illustration with some guidance from your teacher. Finally, learn how to export your work in different formats based on your intention, whether you want to print it to hang on your wall, publish it online, add it to your portfolio, or share it on social media.
