Description

Transform ordinary spaces into unique, structural masterpieces using an experimental design method

Get to know architectural designer Saul Kim. He talks through the creative journey that saw him study at Harvard Graduate School and pursue a career as a freelance designer in the United States. Discover the influences which inspire him and the work he creates.

Explore examples of architectural designs that have been inspired by daily objects. Experiment with the tools needed to make paper models by practicing different form-making techniques, including folding and self-intersection. Then Saul demonstrates how to deconstruct a box to generate form and space.

Learn how to replicate the same techniques digitally to create a model in Rhino 3D. Saul takes you step by step through the process of modeling both a folding and self-intersecting surface. Then discover how to enhance your design by experimenting with height and merging shapes.

Render your model with V-Ray in a studio environment. Begin with the basic setting values for V-Ray rendering, including camera and render output. Then learn how to create a background and apply simple materials to it. Find out how texture mapping works, and how you can use it to adjust the scale and texture of your materials. Finish the course by seeing how to add different types of lighting to your scene to achieve different effects.
