A cultural symbol throughout the ages, the tapestry is a one-of-a-kind object that combines tradition and technicality. This is the belief of designer Delphine Dénéréaz, whose approach is every bit as unique as her creations. Stained tablecloths, outdated curtains, long-forgotten sheets... She reuses neglected fabrics found at home to create contemporary works of art that are accessible to everyone.

With a striking sensitivity to ecology, her creations are a tribute to the incredible Boucherouite rugs. In this course, she introduces you to a unique weaving technique inherited from the Middle Ages, which uses recycled fabrics to fashion new creations. After making your own loom and discovering the basic stitches, transform any piece of fabric into beautiful, colorful, and modern decorative accessories.

Description

Recycle your old fabric to make beautiful decorative tapestries using traditional weaving techniques

Delphine Dénéréaz begins the course by explaining her journey through textile creation. Also learn about her influences, from contemporary artists to Berber weavers.

Next, Delphine delves into to the recycled tapestry weaving technique. She introduces you to the material needed for the course and shows you how to upcycle old fabrics from your closet by building your own frame with simple tools. Discover three types of weave and the basic stitches involved: the knotted stitch and the Egyptian knot stitch.

Move on to the concept phase of the project. Get your creative juices flowing by putting together a mood board and doing a preparatory sketch. Then, choose the stitches and materials for your tapestry.

Time to get to work! Using your DIY frame, start creating the first pieces of the tapestry, then weave the interlocking shapes, the plant motifs, and the background. To finish off your piece, add the last decorative touches.

As a bonus, Delphine teaches you how to create a pouch and even some embroidery stitches. Your creativity has no limits!
