Visual identity systems are more than logos and color palettes. They are a graphic tool that helps us to represent everything from concepts and brands to ourselves as artists. Marco Oggian is an illustrator, designer, and art director who has worked for brands across the world including Nike, Samsung, and Vogue alongside running his own design studio in the north of Spain.

In this course, he shares his expertise in bringing critical thinking to your work and solving your clients’ problems by creating a visual identity system. Learn to understand what is essential in design and how to create a striking identity using simple, geometric shapes in Adobe Illustrator.

Description

Learn how to find what’s truly essential in identity design using geometric shapes, critical thinking, and an efficient workflow

Start the course by getting to know Marco. Learn about his journey to becoming a designer and how he developed the signature style he’s known for. He shares the people who have influenced both his style and his way of thinking, from fellow artists to athletes whose ambition he admires.

Learn about the theory behind visual identity systems, starting with the cognitive process and perception, before moving onto visual synthesis. Find out how our representation of the outside world, our memories, and our background influence design and learn to represent the most important features of an object without creating confusion. Explore how simple, geometric shapes can be used to symbolize almost anything, then delve into what a visual identity system is and how it can be used to represent everything from concepts and communities to brands.

Marco guides you through the graphic elements of the visual identity system. Search for inspiration then learn how to create geometric shapes from objects. Transfer your rough sketches from paper into Adobe Illustrator and work on twelve geometric shapes and a color palette to create the basis of your visual identity system. Combine shapes to create graphic elements, working on size, format, and composition.

To finish the course, Marco shares his tips and tricks for going beyond traditional branding. Use the visual identity system you have created as part of the course and put it into practice to create a computer wallpaper, poster, and basketball court design.
