Have you ever wanted to hand knit your own one-of-a-kind clothes that stand the test of time? Now you can learn how with the expertise of visual artist, artisan, and cofounder of Appsolescencia Lorena Madrazo. Tapestry takes center stage in her textile work, whether that's in clothing or decorative pieces inspired by conscious principles for a sustainable future.

In this course, Lorena teaches you two weaving techniques, one using a frame and the other knitting with different stitches (knit stitch, purl knit stitch, and rice stitch) with two circular needles. Combine both techniques to create an original scarf that is full of texture.

Description

Learn to weave garments full of texture and color by combining two different weaving techniques

Lorena begins by introducing herself and talking about her background as a visual artist and artisan. She shares some of her biggest influences and briefly sums up what the course entails.

Get to know her inspiration process in more depth and let it help kickstart your search for references and create your mood board. Familiarize yourself with the basic criteria for selecting fibers, textures, and colors for your garment, then learn how to sketch the tapestry appliqué.

Lorena then explains how to knit in the continental style, showing you the knit stitch, the purl stitch, and the rice stitch, which is a combination of both.

Look at how to set up the warp and make a tapestry sampler. Lorena teaches you techniques like fringing, plain weave, Egyptian knot stitch, Spanish lace, double half hitch, soumak, and Rya knots.

Time to get to work! Now you've got to grips with the techniques, start creating your one-off piece, then learn how to join the appliqué to the scarf.

Have a look at the countless other pieces you can create with all you've learned and find out how to care for your items so they last a lifetime.
