Give new life to unused clothes with a knitting technique

First you will meet Ximena and how life was leading him towards fashion design almost without realizing it, until 100% dedicated to it and creating his brand in 2018, a space where he unites all his interests, vision and experience in sustainable fashion. You will meet their main references for research and development of proposals zero waste .

You will discover some of the most relevant data on the environmental impact of the fashion industry and the main events in order to raise awareness about it. You will know the characteristics of sustainable materials, you will understand why cotton entails one of the most damaging processes for the environment, and you will see possible more responsible variants such as organic and recycled cotton, among other novel materials. In addition, you will discover new techniques and manufacturing processes that are emerging as exploration points to create sustainable fashion.

Ximena will explain step by step the technique of weaving upcycling . You will review in detail the materials you need to give a new life to old garments, then focus on the design of your piece, analyzing the combinations of materials and color blends.

You will prepare the molds to achieve the different woven pieces and also the material that you will use, transforming it through cuts and knots. Once you have all the materials ready, you will learn the base fabric in all its phases to weave each piece and then join them until you get a garment as a final result. These techniques can be replicated with different types of textile waste, as well as more closed or open fabrics to achieve different results. The idea is that you know the tool so you can experiment freely.

Finally, you will know the washing care that you must take into account. In addition, as an inspiration, you will see different pieces made with this technique to learn about the possibilities it offers, along with other techniques that you can explore to continue your journey in the world of sustainable fashion.
