With a bit of imagination and style, you can capture video content that stops people scrolling using just your mobile phone. For award-winning filmmaker Jose Prada, the key is to know what you want to sell and create a good narrative. He is the co-founder of London-based visual production boutique JRVISUALS where he has worked with clients including Zara, Nespresso, and L’Oréal.
In this course, he guides you through the entire process of creating a commercial for a brand or product using your smartphone. Discover how to use lighting, editing, art direction, and more, to create eye-catching videos that help a brand stand out on social media. Are you ready to get out there and start creating professional content that gets noticed?
This is JRVISUALS’ second course with Domestika. In their first, Documentary Filmmaking from Scratch, Jose teaches you how to create a documentary to visually communicate a story alongside JRVISUALS co-founder, Rene Strgar.
Description
Begin the course by getting to know filmmaker Jose Prada. He talks through the career that took him from teaching to founding his own production boutique and creating promotional content for international brands. Discover the influences that inspire the work he creates.
Dive into the fundamentals of commercial filmmaking, beginning with the evolution of advertising on social media. Learn how to research a client and develop a brief with them in mind. Then, come up with ideas for your campaign that fit the parameters of your brief.
Jose guides you through every step of the pre-production process, starting with creating a script, shot list, and mood board for your project. Next, discover the importance of set design, from art direction to location and wardrobe. Hear Jose’s tips on composing a shot and how light affects what you see on the screen.
Time to shoot your video! Look at the basic equipment needed for filming, including a tripod, lighting, and the apps that can enhance the finished result. Then use Jose’s real client examples to look at different aspects of directing before putting what you’ve learned into practice and filming your concept.
Explore the post-production editing process. Jose introduces you to Splice, a mobile app for video editing, as well as guiding you step-by-step through his own video editing process. To finish, he shows you how to put the finishing touches to your commercial and export your final project.
