Embroidery is an ancestral art whose techniques have been passed down the generations by the masters. Andréa Orue, known on social media as Primavera de 83, revives this fascinating tradition and shares her knowledge through needle and thread.

In this course, learn to embroider a self-portrait with botanical motifs. With the help of your teacher, discover new stitches and produce an original artwork full of detail and texture.

Description

Explore the basics of freestyle embroidery and create an original piece that connects hand, mind and heart

Start the course by getting to know Andréa Orue as she talks about her journey as an artist and teacher. She shares her biggest influences and gives an overview of the final project.

Go through the materials and tools needed for your project one by one. Your teacher shows you the basic freehand embroidery stitches as well as her trademark "Andréa Orue" stitch.

Now it's time to start working on your project. Make a mood board and compile a sketchbook of botanical-themed reference materials. Choose a self-portrait and combine your chosen photo with natural materials, to get your composition down on paper.

And now... It's time to embroider! Andréa talks you through translating your drawing to the fabric, starting with the hair using the color gradient technique. Now for the leaves and stems, floral motifs, color, volume, and texture. She gives you tips on adding the finishing touches on your piece and maintaining it properly.
