A pop-up book is a true feat of paper engineering in which beauty, technique, and content go hand in hand to create a new world for the reader to dive into with every turn of the page. Silvia Hijano Coullaut, founder of the Libracos studio, is an expert in this medium and has collaborated with various brands, film producers, and advertising agencies.
In this course, learn how to create a pop-up book step-by-step, touching on each of the production stages: cutting, assembling, pasting, adding hinges, and binding. Discover different pop-up techniques for solid and functional construction and be creating your own pieces in no time!
Description
Start off by getting to know Silvia and her journey so far. Hear a little bit about her experience and the many joys she’s experienced while working with books. She tells you about her inspirations and explains the course project in more detail, and so begins your adventure in the exciting world of pop-up books.
Silvia gives you some recommendations for building the foundations of a good piece; Knowing how to use the tools and understanding the materials is essential for good pop-up craft. Then, get to work on your first mechanism exercises to help you develop natural hand movements and come up with structures for your own creations.
Dive right into the most creative part of the process, the development of your idea, following the chosen methodology for composing your own book. Once your project is clearly defined, get to work building each of the pages right up to their final assembly and the binding.
Finish off the course by exploring other fields in which your newly learned skills can be used.
