What if you could recreate your favorite items of clothing? Immerse yourself in the world of patternmaking and recreate cherished garments with help from Lantoki, the 2-in-1 fashion studio founded by designers Sandra Liberal and Urko Martinez that's a combination of store and workshop.

In this course, learn techniques to replicate patterns from your favorite garments without deconstructing them. Recreate clothing you love with needle and thread and fill your wardrobe with unique, handmade garments.

And if you want to further explore the art of dressmaking, Lantoki will teach you all about it in their course Dressmaking: Design Your Own Dress Shirt.

Description

Learn how to recreate a pattern from an existing garment without deconstructing it

Start the course by meeting the founders of Lantoki: Sandra and Urko. They tell you about how this fashion-forward creative space came to be and show you some of the different people and brands that have influenced their work.

In the next unit, study some basic concepts to help you create professional patterns. Take a look at the types of garments that can be recreated and the materials you need to reproduce them at home. Then, learn a simple way to replicate a pattern that doesn't require deconstructing the garment.

Now it's time for the hands-on part of the course. Learn how to visually break down a garment by dividing into the number pieces it has and cuts you need to make. Recreate the pattern piece by piece, double check your measurements, and add pattern notches. First, try out this technique with a basic shirt and then repeat it with your favorite pair of jeans.

Start the next unit with some tips on the right kind of needle and thread for your sewing machine before learning how to sew the basic sections on a pair of pants. Then, sew the front and back pockets and the fly. Finally, stitch together your pants and add belt loops, a waistband, and hems to give your jeans that quintessential look.
