Did you know that creating realistic scenarios in cinema has a name? This is the matte painting technique. Before programs like Photoshop existed, scenarios were performed on a set manually or with models. Luckily, this changed thanks to the appearance of digital techniques that brought realism and more professional finishes. The specialist in this technique, Koke Núñez, creates impossible scenarios and landscapes for films and for world-renowned clients such as Two Steps From Hell, Warner Bros Music Chappell, Immediate Music or Ikea.

In this course, Koke will teach you how to create matte paintings that could be part of a film production. You will know everything related to this technique, seeing how large productions use it. In addition, you will learn the techniques used, the use of brushes or the lighting and integration of elements in the composition. Create a movie scene!

Description

Learn the basic concepts, techniques, and 2D processes to create movie scenes

Koke will start the course by explaining his career path. He will tell you what he is currently doing, he will share with you his main sources of inspiration and he will summarize what you will learn during the course.

First you will review the basic concepts of matte painting and you will see some examples. Then, you will choose the theme of your matte painting , posing the scene and composition using sketches made with the thumbnails technique. In your sketches, you will determine the distances, the elements, the lights and the shadows, or if it is day or night ... You will be able to access the necessary resources to prepare your scene.

With your finished sketch, you will choose the necessary resources for each element and separate them using various trimming techniques. When you have the elements separated and clean, you will go to correction: you will learn to merge and integrate the elements on stage. You will see how to correct perspectives, sizes, positions ... among other things.

You will go to the color, light and shadow corrections so that your matte painting comes alive and realism. You will see how to create the atmosphere of your composition with fog and cloud effects, depth or brightness effects. Finally, Koke will give you the last tips to finish your piece and achieve a professional cinematic finish.
