Laura Bossi - Shambaloo

Words are not the only way to tell a story about the world around you, sometimes cord, knots, and a touch of creativity are all you need to weave together the plot. Through the art of macramé, Laura Bossi, textile artist better known as Shambaloo, has discovered how to transform cords into landscapes, mountains, and waterfalls and transport the nature that inspires her into her home.

In this course, learn how to make a macramé wall hanging, from the initial idea to the final knot. Laura teaches you how to prepare a technical sheet to calculate the knots and materials you need for your piece and guides you through the process to create a unique composition with cotton cord. Find inspiration in the art of knotting and tie together your personal story.

Description

Learn macramé to make decorative tapestries with cords, threads, and knots to create a two-color composition inspired by your surroundings

Textile artist Laura Bossi begins the course by telling you about her first encounter with macramé and how it blossomed into a passion for this art form. She also shares the people, places, and things that inspire her work and that have influenced her style.

Continue with an introduction to the tools and materials you need to make your final project. Explore different types of cord, wood, and supports before learning the basic knots.

Once you've covered the essentials, work on the design of your wall hanging and draw a sketch. Laura then shows you how to turn your sketch into a technical sheet with a detailed scale diagram to help you understand the proportions. Use this diagram to determine the number and type of knots you need to create your design.

Next, calculate how much material you need to make your wall hanging and the length of each section.

Now it's time to get knotting! Tie the cord to your wooden support and start shaping your composition, following your teacher's instructions.

Finally, learn how to decorate your finished piece by adding fringe and tassels. To tie everything together, Laura explains how to take care of your wall hanging and make it last.
