Applying traditional weaving techniques to create contemporary and functional pieces is what Carolina Ortega - industrial and textile designer - does every day with PVC cord weaving as the protagonist. His creations with different yarns and plots have reached magazines such as Vogue, Design Milk and id prestige for their originality, enhancing the value of handmade items.
In this course you will learn to weave in PVC cord. You will know the basic techniques so you can create decorative objects and hand-woven furniture. In addition, you will see how to create your own pattern, adjust it to an object and always keep it as new.
Description
You will meet Carolina, who will tell you about her interest in art and painting, her professional career, how she has developed her technique to take the PVC cord to different applications and create her design studio where they focus on creating contemporary pieces with techniques of traditional fabric. In addition, he will talk to you about his influences, among artists and designers he admires, and also, Colombian and Wayú handicrafts.
You will see what PVC is, what its applications are and how you can work with this versatile material. You will learn through practical exercises what flat tissue is and how you can apply it to an object. Then, you will know types of patterns ideal for PVC fabric, the types of yarns you can use, and the frames and shapes recommended for knitting.
You will see the materials you need to complete the course project (a stool). You will prepare the pattern and the colors for the chair, take the measurements and prepare everything step by step to avoid surprises at the end of your piece.
You will start to spin the chair creating the base, and then move on to the slowest process of the project: the fabric. Carolina will explain step by step the process to create a composite surface. Once you have finished the fabric, you will see how to finish the ties so that they are released and you will apply some final finishes.
Finally, Carolina will invite you to fly your imagination showing a series of examples to create unique designs, as well as some care and protection tips for your new stool.
