Turn any book into a carefully crafted page-turner following the editing techniques of Argentine author and editor Paula Brecciaroli. She has published a variety of literary works including the novels Otaku (Paisanita, 2015) and Brasil(Conejos, 2011), and the poetry books Cuarenta gotas de azufre (Santos Locos, 2021) and La sinceridad de un golpe (Santos Locos, 2018).

In this course, learn the basics of publishing to edit and arrange a manuscript of your storybook, including the technical aspects, for self-publishing or to submit to a publisher. Discover the first steps in the book-publishing process, treating each story as a compositional building block for the structure of a book.

Description

Learn editing techniques to organize, polish, and shape a book ready for publication

As a forward to the course, Paula Brecciaroli tells you a bit about herself and her experience as an author, editor, and publisher. She also talks about the influences that are visible in her work and that have shaped her publishing style.

Turn the page and get a first-hand look at what's involved in publishing. Take an x-ray of a book to understand the individual parts that make it up and learn to categorize books by literary genre. Then, follow Paula through a practical exercise to experiment with structure, varying arrangements for different reader experiences, before classifying your stories based on genre, style, and content.

Now it's time to build your book! Learn how to arrange your stories around a central theme while keeping certain technical aspects of publishing in mind. Once you have the definitive format, create a table of contents and select the strongest title for your project.

Round out the course by exploring publication options. Paula explains how to submit your work to publishers that match your style and gives you some tips on contracts and conditions. She also shares some valuable insights into self-publishing should you decide to take that route.
