Goula / Figuera

If you take a quick look around you, you realize that absolutely everything has been designed, from the planes in the sky to the pens you use on a daily basis. Product designer Pablo Figuera, cofounder of the Goula / Figuera studio, uses this moment of observation and reflection to help him improve people's lives with new materials, colors, shapes, and uses for a variety of items.

In this course, your teacher shares every stage of the design process, from the interpretation of the brief to the creation of the prototype. Deepen your knowledge of product design and breathe life to your ideas.

Description

Discover every stage in the product design process, from the interpretation of a brief to the creation of the prototype

Start by getting to know your teacher, product designer Pablo Figuera, and his career in product design. Hear the origin story of the Goula / Figuera studio and how they created the GOFI brand. Explore the references and influences that have shaped his work.

Broaden your understanding of product design and explore the different areas you can specialize in. Take a look at the key areas to take into account before starting a project: the brief, the budget, market research, and the development of a mood board to define the aesthetic.

After delving into the initial stages of the design process, learn how to get your ideas down on paper and define the proportions and measurements using diagrams. Then, Pablo teaches you how to make easy volumetric models in order to check the dimensions.

Once you've got the shape of the item, move on to the materials and color and see how they affect the design and the perception of the product, respectively. Finally, create a 3D model of your item and prepare it for rendering.

According to Pablo, a design becomes more than just an idea when it reaches the communication and production phase. Wrap up the course by reflecting on the importance of storytelling and good photography for sharing your project with the world, as well as the various paths you can follow to make your idea a reality.
