It is important to know the old ways perfectly so that you can find new ones that no one has ever trod before. The Argentinean clothing designer and embroiderer Nayla Marc creates embroidered pieces with traditional materials but adds alternative fabrics and new textile techniques to achieve volume, three-dimensionality, and a very contemporary aesthetic.

In this course, Nayla teaches you three-dimensional embroidery techniques, from volumetric stitches that are embroidered directly onto the fabric, to other stitches that include padding. See how to include pieces embroidered with wire inside and also, lined pieces that will later be included in the main embroidery. Give volume to your creativity!

Description

Play with volume and create original three-dimensional embroidered pieces using alternative materials

Start by getting to Nayla's journey in the embroidery world, as she shows you her main influences when working.

Review the materials and tools you'll use, plus useful tips. Then, look for inspiring references and start creating your embroidery design. Nayla shows you how to prepare the color palette in a very simple way.

Discover something very useful: the stitch chart. On top of it, see the differences between flat and 3D embroidery. Learn how to define the areas of the drawing to be highlighted with volume and see how to transfer the designs to the fabric.

Next, start embroidering! First, start on the main fabric applying the flat stitches and others with volume; then learn the process for the three-dimensional pieces that go with wire or polystyrene spheres, how to embroider them and, once they are finished, how to apply them to the piece. Nayla shows you how to put together your three-dimensional embroidery creating great depth and volume.

Finally, get some advice on their uses, care for your piece, and possible applications of three-dimensional embroidery.

By the end of the course, you will have an authentic piece embroidered by you with three-dimensional details, which will bring another dimension to the space it decorates.
