Description

Learn how to knit with multiple colors and combine organic shapes to create custom clothing

Begin the course by getting to know knitwear designer Laura Dalgaard. She shares the creative journey that led her to start her own label and work with clients like Anthropologie. Discover the influences that inspire her work, from books to thrift shops.

Dive into the materials needed for the course, such as yarn, scissors, knitting needles, and a stitch holder. Laura then shows you a variety of techniques including how to cast on and cast off, ribbing, and stockinette knitting. Learn how to experiment with color using the intarsia technique, and measure your gauge for the perfect-fitting sweater.

Sketch your knitwear design using crayons, then decide on the colors you want to use to create contrast in your work. Turn your sketches into a digital diagram using the free software, Stitch Fiddler. Then learn how to read your diagram in preparation for knitting.

Time to make your sweater! Use your diagram as a guide to create the main part of your piece using the knitting techniques learned so far. Then, learn how to sew the front and back pieces of your sweater together and how to pick up stitches for the neck and sleeves.

Weave in the ends of your wool or yarn and steam your garment for a polished end result. Then, to finish the course, Laura guides you through how to use the garter stitch to add personalized details to your sweater.
