Description

Learn ancient techniques to add texture to your handmade fabrics through braids, felting, and embossed yarns

Start by getting to know your teachers, Melissa Avila and Lucrecia García of M.A Estudio. They share their biggest creative influences and go through a list of the tools you need for the design phase and the making of your loom and artisanal tapestry.

Discover how a Mexican loom is used as well as other ancient techniques before seeing how your teachers combine this ancestral tradition with modern practices. Learn what the warp yarn is and its importance and explore a range of materials you can use for your own piece. Also take a closer look at all the materials you need for the final project.

Start by building your own loom. Then, once you've settled on a design for your piece, Melissa and Lucrecia show you how to translate it to your yarns. Now it's time to get weaving. See how to start your piece off from the base and begin to add texture and volume with more incredible techniques. Next, get to work on the final details and finishing touches.

As you weave towards the end of the course, get some tips on maintaining your pieces to keep them looking new for longer as well as how to display them. Your teachers finish up by showing more of their work to inspire you to keep practicing and experimenting on your own.
