Fashion Illustration: from the Catwalk to the Paper

You will begin by knowing Robert and his work, especially that focused on fashion illustration. He will also tell you about some of his sources of inspiration and references.

Before giving your first strokes, you will document yourself and look for reference images to be able to develop concepts and start illustrating.

Together with Robert, you will carry out a drawing practice based on a photographic base and you will learn the main differences between a masculine face and a feminine face when drawing them. You will learn to contribute hair details and visual textures of some surfaces to your drawing.

You will make a collage using your references to give rise to new images and learn about the hierarchy of the elements of composition, silhouettes and integration of the whole set.

Robert encourages you to experiment with some materials, and with the help of a scanner or a camera, you will take samples to create a small tool bank that you will use in the process of colorizing the illustration.

You will draw and apply different techniques, combining manual and digital elements until you get the result you are looking for.

Finally, you will adjust the composition, the complements and the background and learn how to mount your illustration on a mockup of a magazine page to visualize your illustration in the proper context.
