A camera, a set, and a few props can help you create, but the key to truly expressing yourself lies in finding and listening to your own artistic voice. This idea is the driving force behind the success of Carol Peña, photographer and art director who has worked with major brands like Carolina Herrera, Adidas, Hermès, Bombay Sapphire, and Estrella Damm capturing expressive images that resonate with their audience.

In this course, join Carol and embark on a journey into emotive photography. Learn how to shoot portraits that tell real, unmasked stories that convey ideas and spark emotions. Experiment with light and everyday objects to find your own style and capture powerful images in different forms, from a photoshoot with a model to a self-portrait.

Description

Combine color, composition, and space to get portraits that tell a story and generate emotions

Start the course by getting to know your teacher Carol Peña, who tells you about how she fell in love with stories, colors, design, and photography. She also shares some of the artists that have inspired her work and that helped her find her own style.

Take note as Carol explains her creative process and learn a series of tricks and techniques to understand how ideas sprout and how to cultivate them into fully developed projects. Hear about some of the inspiring female photographers whose approach to this art form changed the way Carol sees the camera, regardless of which side she's on. Then, explore the concept of storytelling and the prominent role it plays in photography.

Learn how to look at your surroundings from a different perspective and see that any commonplace object, if used correctly, can help you express a specific emotion. Explore the role of light in portrait photography and discover the different ways it can be used in your photoshoots through a series of exercises.

Now it's time to start shooting. Experiment with materials like glass and mirrors to create a variety of effects in your photos and follow Carol's advice on how to work with your model and make your photoshoot flow naturally. Discover the duality of self-portraits as both an artistic and therapeutic process by reflecting on the importance and simultaneous difficulty of looking at oneself.

Move on to the post-production phase and choose the best images for telling your story. Carol then shows you the apps she uses to easily edit her photos. Finally, work on a text to post alongside your photos on social media.
