Can you imagine creating an embroidery piece using wood as a base? Madrid-based designer Estela Botello, founder of L'ABU Studio, is a carpenter who finds in the needle and thread her main allies to carry out her embroidery projects. After working for major companies such as Inditex, Estela seeks to recover traditional embroidery techniques to create objects with soul, heart, and conscience.

In this course, learn different embroidery techniques and apply them on a wooden base. Estela teaches you, step by step, how to make a wide variety of stitches, flat and raised. See how to transform your embroidery into a unique and original work with different colors and textures.

Description

Learn how to embroider flat and embossed stitches using wood as a base

Start the course by learning about Estela's career and her trajectory up to the creation of L'ABU Studio. Discover some of her main influences, from her grandmother to well-known artists, and other references from the world of craftsmanship.

In the second unit, review all the materials you need to start embroidering on wood. Then, learn how to drill holes in the wood, paying attention to the thickness and position of the holes according to the type of stitches you make.

Estela introduces you to the world of stitching. Learn how to create lines with different types of stitches. Then, see flat and embossed stitches to give volume and make flowers, petals, and trees.

Now it's time to get down to business. First, create a drawing or embroidery pattern from scratch. Then, mark the necessary stitches on the wood and see how to make the holes correctly. Finally, choose the colors and start embroidering on the wooden base.

In the final stage, Estela shares some tricks and secrets so that you can correctly finish your piece. And also, see how, using the same wooden base, you can create different shapes.
