Gabi Goitía (Tejiendo Raíces)

Ever wanted to turn your illustration into a one-of-a-kind piece of embroidery? If you don't know how to illustrate or embroider just yet, don't worry! Self-taught embroidery expert Gabi Goitía, creator of Tejiendo raíces and cofounder of the embroidery club of Argentina, teaches you how to design embroidery from scratch, tackling the illustration in a relaxed way and translating it into stitches to start bringing your embroidery to life.

Learn to let loose artistically and draw your own watercolor patterns, then turn your illustrations into embroidery that expresses your ideas and emotions. By the end of this course, you'll have created your own piece of exquisite embroidery ready to hang up wherever you like.

Description

Learn to design embroidery from scratch using an illustration and express your emotions stitch by stitch

Start by getting to know Gabi Goitía as she tells you more about herself, her professional journey from natural science to her discovery of embroidery, her main influences, and the sources of inspiration that motivate her to get creating.

Find out all you need to know about the materials to get your project off the ground. Gabi shares some resources for looking for inspiration and the basic concepts to start defining a color palette.

Time to get to work! Warm up with watercolor and sketch your first illustration. Work through an exercise drawing up a list of triggers or ideas to start improvising and see that you don't need to "know how to draw" to be able to create your patterns.

Then, prepare the needle and thread to turn your illustration into embroidery. Learn to transfer your design onto fabric, choose the appropriate stitches to convey your idea and develop it step by step. See how to work with lines, fills, and tiny details.

To complete your embroidery piece, Gabi helps you refine every last detail so that it's ready to display. She also gives you some tips for taking a great photo of your work to share it on social media.
