The intensity of the colors and the brightness of the pigments created with traditional techniques can not be compared with any product manufactured in an industrial way. Curro Gutiérrez - better known as Scriptorium Yayyan - is a painter, illustrator and calligrapher specializing in painting codices or medieval illumination. He has worked for universities, the Cathedral of Jaén (Spain), the Sephardic Spanish Society and in advertising for brands such as Desigual.
He has received the title of Enlumineur de France , the greatest recognition in this artistic discipline, which gives him the responsibility to work with millenary techniques trying to be faithful to and respectful of traditional procedures and materials.
In this course he will teach you how to make your own watercolors using traditional recipes, made up of natural pigments.
Description
You will begin by getting to know the work of Curro Gutiérrez and his influences when working under the name of Scriptorium Yayyan.
Then he will talk about the essential ingredients that you should use when creating your own palette of watercolors. It will tell you about the classic binders and will give you the ingredients you should have on hand to create them, teach you the recipes and how to preserve the product.
He will teach you first to create a variety of warm colors: yellows, reds, ochres, earth tones ... and then cold ones, a range of blues and greens. Later on he will also talk about how to obtain more rare pigments such as gold and silver, although he will not include them in the final palette.
Curro will give you very useful tips on filling godets and will give you ideas about the different containers to keep your watercolors in. You will also see how the weather influences the creation and conservation of watercolors and you will get invaluable tips on drying times, packaging and final presentation.
