Learn all the steps and dressmaking techniques to make your own dress shirt, starting from printing the pattern, choosing and cutting fabric correctly, to sewing, and adding the finishing touches. Discover all the secrets behind this art form and give personality to your wardrobe with a garment created by your able hands, from start to finish.
Description
Start the course by getting to know Urko and Sandra’s career so far, and the story behind the creation of their brand Lantoki. See what their main aesthetic references are in fashion, as well as other areas like architecture and design.
In the second unit, take the first steps to create your shirt, looking at the materials and tools needed. Start by defining the size of the shirt and print a pattern that will be provided by the teachers, then learn how to make some changes to customize your shirt, adjusting the sleeves, collar, and pockets.
Once your pattern is ready, learn how to choose the right fabric, assess how much you’ll need and how to cut it accurately, transferring all the shapes of your pattern to the fabric.
Next, you’ll start to sew. Urko teaches how to prepare the front and back of your dress shirt, and how to sew them together. Prepare the buttonholes for the front of your shirt, sew the folds of the chest and waist, join the yoke to the back, as well as the shoulders, and sides.
In the fifth unit, your shirt will have taken shape, and you’ll proceed by sewing the sleeves with openings, folds, and cuffs. You’ll work on each section separately, eventually adding each section to your shirt. You’ll see that creating the sleeves is a crucial step in how well your shirt looks once you are done.
Lastly, you’ll sew on your collar, another key feature of your dress shirt that will need special attention. Then you’ll sew on the buttons, the pockets, and conclude the course with some finishing touches.
