Discover and take advantage of the power of technology to create furniture from your imagination using a CNC router. According to industrial designer Daniel Romero, the combination of software and machinery gives you complete control over design and decision-making, regardless of your project's scale or complexity.
As a follow-up to Daniel's first course, Introduction to CNC Router Furniture Design, delve into more advanced concepts for designing and building easy-to-assemble furniture that's fully customizable. Learn everything from an environmentally friendly approach to selecting materials to how to assemble all the different pieces of your project.
Description
Daniel Romero opens the course by telling you about who he is and how he ended up in his current situation, surrounded by design, creativity, sustainability, and wood. He rounds out the introduction by giving you an overview of the course.
Next, discover some of the materials that are best suited to this type of manufacturing, for both practical and environmental reasons. Move on to explore different cutting mechanisms and machines and go over the most common types of cuts made with a CNC router.
Now it's time to tackle your project. Start by analyzing the brief and requirement list. Learn several ways to approach your design through exploration and find references that include important aspects such as functionality and ergonomics. Then create scale models and the final mock-up.
Draw the first digital lines of your desk and see how to use different tools in Rhinoceros 5. Continue working through the design process by creating joints, adjusting internal corners, and customizing your desk with some final touches.
Once you're done, take your exported file to a CNC shop of your choice to get your pieces cut out. Finally, Daniel walks you through each of the post-cut steps that need to be done in the workshop to ensure that the pieces are ready for assembly.
