Description

Discover the world of tailoring by learning how to modify an existing pattern to create multiple versions of the same dress

Start the course by getting to know Tania and Novella, the creative minds behind the independent dressmaking studio Nivule + Pesci Rossi. They talk about their careers so far and which artists, stylists, and books have most influenced them over the years.

Now it's time to get to work on your project! See why making your own dresses can help you lead a more sustainable lifestyle before looking at the materials and instruments you need in order to get creating. With the help of your teachers, put together an inspirational mood board to help you visualize the context, colors, and style of your final garment, and select the most appropriate fabric for your piece.

Then do some initial sketches of your dress before moving on the the practical side of things. Novella and Tania teach you how to take measurements, adjust the sizing, and correctly interpret your pattern.

Later, customize your dress by modifying the pattern according to your own style and taste, and see how to design various versions of the same dress all with very unique characteristics. Once you've settled on your favorite, it's on to the hands on part, from cutting the fabric following your pattern to working on the hem as well as the neckline and armhole details.

To bring this journey to an end, Tania and Novella give you some style tips and help you choose which accessories best complement your creation.
