According to Elsa and Dani, founders of Fatto, an accessories creation workshop in Colombia, the process of making something with your own two hands is also an act of care and self-affection. That feeling is the engine that drives them to design their jewelry and give workshops to those who love crafts as much as they do.
In this course, learn to design and weave jewelry step by step using a bead loom, mastering materials and going through the entire creative process to finish your piece. By the end, you’ll know how to design and create your own accessories with a style that is personal and unique.
Description
Start by getting to know the mother and daughter team of Elsa and Dani and learn how they worked together to found Fatto. Discover their references and the inspiration they use to create accessories that are full of color and personality.
Next, learn everything you need to know about the materials you’ll be working with. Delve into the different types of beads and their uses. Then discover the wide variety of threads and get some recommendations from your teachers about alternatives that can be easily found in your local craft store. Finally, see what looms exist on the market, where to find them, and how to easily build one of your own.
Then, it’s time to choose the color palette, taking into account how the different brightnesses of each bead will affect the final result. Draw a sketch from an image and replicate it throughout your pattern according to the style you’d like to give your bracelet. Create a symmetrical geometric design based on the diagonals and lines of the grid.
In the last unit, assemble the loom with the skeleton of the bracelet using thread and begin weaving the beads. Learn how to add yarn, in case it runs out while you’re knitting, and complete your bracelet with some finishing touches like a top knot or a slip knot.
