In the world of fashion, the only limit is your imagination. In this course, Natalia Londoño, fashion designer and creative director of her namesake brand, invites you to explore your creativity and craft unique and fluid designs that will never cease to amaze.
With your instructor by your side, learn to design a basic garment from scratch using experimental patterns. Play with shapes, volume, and silhouettes while following a concept and keeping a specific body type in mind. Transform fashion into a form of self-expression.
Description
First, get to know your instructor and learn about her work, her experience, and her career path in the field of design, particularly in the world of fashion. Natalia gives you an overview of her influences and some general sources of inspiration that she's drawn from throughout her career.
Get started on the theory behind your project with basic concepts in patterns, silhouettes, and volume. Make a mood board with references and create a palette for colors, textures, and prints. Finish off the unit by taking measurements on a real person.
Then, design a basic pattern on paper using the measurements you took as your guide. Cut the fabric, test it out on a person or use a mannequin, and make adjustments until you get the result you're looking for. Then it's time to cut the pieces out of the final fabric and assemble them in a specific order.
Natalia guides you through the assembly and dressmaking process. She teaches you some basic finishes and how to make your design look like a professional-grade garment. By the end of the course, you'll know how to design and create dresses and tops and bring your ideas to life.
