Ceramics is a craft that enchants whoever discovers it, a creative outlet that unwinds and allows for some introspection. Julieta Álvarez—Designer specializing in jewelry— takes ceramics a step further, incorporating it to jewelry design, and has now over 7 years of experience in crafting unique pieces of jewelry in her workshop, now exporting it worldwide for a number of years.

In this course, Julieta introduces you to her ceramic universe, teaching you the basic techniques to design, model, enamel, and create a small collection of three jewelry pieces.

Description

Learn basic techniques to create, model, and enamel three jewelry pieces

Start by getting to know Julieta as she briefly explains her professional career so far and how she created her own ceramic jewelry business. Learn about her artistic references both inside and outside the ceramics space.

Get down to work by creating a mood board with images, words, materials, and anything that inspires you or that can influence you in the conceptualization process.

Julieta presents the materials involved in creating ceramic jewelry, reviewing the main characteristics of each one.

Once you have your ideas, start modeling the clay. Create three pieces of jewelry for your collection. To do this, sketch various sizes, formats, and views of the pieces. Create freely and explore the limits of the clay, as well as your creativity.

Once you have all the pieces outlined, select and touch up your favorites to structure your collection.

Learn the basic modeling techniques to make a start on modeling your designs. Then, sponge and finish your pieces.

Next, see how to use a ceramic oven or kiln. Julieta explains that there are two baking processes: in the first one, you squash the pieces. Once you have the biscuit, move on to glazing the pieces. Learn about the different enamels and learn techniques to apply them. Understand the second baking process and finally, add the latest fittings to your creations.

Finally, you see how to store and care for your jewelry. Get advice on packaging, how to prepare it, and secure your creations, to send them safely with a professional-looking presentation.
