"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result", this well-known quote should be the mantra of any creative mind, and it seems that the contemporary beading embroiderer Camila Rubio—known as Pasionaria Pedrería—has it engraved in her mind. The world of embroidery offers endless possibilities and Camila, day by day, explores each one of them with the aim of offering original, striking, and unique pieces, investigating different media, experimenting with formats and sizes, and trying to incorporate non-traditional materials in her embroidery.

In this course, Camila will teach you how to make a portrait embroidered with beads from start to finish, which will serve as a way to express your style and creativity, using materials that add shine and texture to your piece.

Description

Learn how to embroider your favorite characters' faces to give personality and texture to your garments

Meet Camila, the embroiderer known as Pasionaria Pedrería. Learn about the path that led her to beaded embroidery and what this means for her. Take a look at some of her influences and what inspires her to create.

Learn basic color theory and color wheel notions, and some considerations on the properties of color. Review the portrait genre within the visual arts, analyzing its particularities and difficulties. Then, explore the necessary materials for the development of your project.

Learn step by step how to draw and embroider your portrait with beads. First, choose the rhinestones looking at the nuances in color and texture, and then do a manual calibration of the materials. Learn how to make the pattern to transfer it to the fabric. Camila teaches you how to outline your sketch, and then learn the continuous stitch for beads to be used in much of the embroidery.

Next, embroider the face giving different directions to your stitches and starting with the nose, forehead, and eyelids. Using various materials and colors you can give it volume, light, and shadow. Continue with the cheeks and the chin; Finally, the hair, the most entertaining part! To do this, Camila teaches you how to apply the sweep stitch, ideal to put sequins.

With your portrait finished, Camila gives you some tips that will always help you: how to take care of the beads, how to keep your piece or hang it for all to see or even, how to turn it into a patch.
