Sound—and the absence of it—have a great degree of responsibility in the enjoyment of an audiovisual piece. Remember the first time you heard the T-Rex roar in Jurassic Park or the first time a ship jumped into hyperspace in Star Wars?
Nadine Voullième, a sound engineer with more than 30 years of experience, will teach you in this course how to use Avid Pro Tools to bring emotion, information, sensations, and perceptions to an image. Learn an accessible way to assemble soundtracks and develop the sound of your projects in a creatively and with technical knowledge.
Description
First, Nadine will introduce herself and tell you about her main references. Then, you will review various concepts and perspectives of sound so you can apply them when thinking about your projects. You will learn about sound families, the role of music in the audiovisual world, the position of sound sources within a scene, and how this helps create different sound dimensions.
To show you the sound process of a scene, Nadine will work on a scene from the movie Redentor, by the Chilean director Ernesto Díaz, from the creation of the work session in Pro Tools until the final mix. You will be able to do it with a scene of your choice.
You will learn to create dubbing with an actor or actress, and Nadine will give you her best tips for making foleys.
You will discover the steps and tools to achieve a good balance between all the sound elements, including the edition of dialogues, environments, and particular sounds.
You will go to the mixing, starting with the main characteristics, moving to equalization, working with sound planes, and spatial location. Then you will try different versions of music for the scene and analyze the effect of each one. Finally, you will learn to export a final sound file to incorporate it into your image master.
